![]() ![]() He seems to be in an awful lot of episodes, kind of like Cryptic kept making time travel ones just to work him in. I kind of get the feeling that the actor who played Daniels was so delighted to get an expanded role in Star Trek Online that he never left the studio. ![]() Sela, Yar’s daughter, joins the away team to investigate the aftermath of all of this.Īnd Daniels is here, too. Instead, while investigating temporal anomalies around a Romulan prison planet (which is drawing Tholians like flies), we find out that Yar and company were plopped down here and left to rot after the Romulans abandoned the prison (and the guards!) after a time. We know that Yar was captured by the Romulans, became a concubine, had Sela, and supposedly die, but I guess STO’s writers wasn’t happy with this thin story. Well, Survivor picks up on this story thread and fill in some of the gaps to the whole Tasha Yar/Sela story. That one, too, was all about Yesterday’s Enterprise, Tholians, and time travel, having the player crew assist Tasha Yar and Daniels in escaping an alternate universe and taking the Enterprise-C back in time to fight and be captured. I guess this mission could be considered the sequel to the rather excellent Temporal Ambassador. All of the dependable Star Trek ingredients for a good romp. It turned out to be one of the better stories that I’ve experienced in this game, combining Yesterday’s Enterprise, the Tholians, and time travel. To get back into this character/ship’s groove, I perused my mission list and noticed that I had missed this episode, which I guess was added a year or so ago. I figured that with the new expansion launching this week, it just made the most sense to switch back to my highest-level character and ship that was mostly ready for it all. Firefly from Star Trek Online’s drydock this past weekend and took her out for her first mission in many months. Loose projections puts this title sometime in 2011.As promised, I extracted the U.S.S. So far, there is no word as to how this title will operate, or whether we'll be able to play a mean game of three-dimensional chess in it. ![]() While Gameforge certainly has been prolific as a developer, this Star Trek MMO will be its first high-profile project. Trekkies may treat this news with reserved caution, although Gameforge's Ralf Adam promises the stars: "Honoring the Star Trek legacy and providing the global community with excellent free-to-play browser games is something we are very dedicated to and excited about." ![]() However, Atari will still hold the exclusive MMO rights to Star Trek. TrekWeb reports that Gameforge signed a worldwide licensing agreement with CBS Consumer Products to develop the game in the original Star Trek universe, from the classic era of Captain Kirk up through the days of Deep Space Nine. The unnamed Star Trek MMO will be - yes - a free-to-play browser title, so don't expect it to directly compete with Cryptic's own Star Trek Online. Gameforge hasn't exactly been a household name up to this point, with titles such as Gates of Andaron and Ikariam, but it seems like that might change now that they have a crack at one of the most recognizable science fiction franchises in the world. "Boldly going where one MMO has gone before!" doesn't quite have a ring to it, but that's not deterring German developer Gameforge from grabbing a slice of the Star Trek IP for a new MMO. ![]()
